Abbas Sk.Hatim Ali Magazi, Bachelor of Science from American University of Cairo, Egypt, has a very inspiring journey. He carried out planning for joining family business and took up a challenging decision to switch stream to get higher education in that particular field.
In 2005 on completing Commerce in secondary school in Kuwait, Abbas realized that Commerce stream would not be right choice if he were to join his father’s business of trading in fluid transfer accessories (industrial spare parts). As the business was more technical in nature, he had to make some tough decisions in order to be effective and add further value to the business.
Abbas, confidently, took the firm step and decided to switch to Science stream. He spend the next 5 years in Cairo, Egypt and completed Bachelor of Science from American University of Cairo in 2011, with a Major in Instrumentation Physics and a Minor in Mathematics, as well as a 5 months intensive course in the Arabic language.
While at it, he took a break from studies in 2008 and moved to Kuwait for 9 months to work with his father Sk. Hatim bhai Magazi in their company Al Taiyabat International Co., to obtain first-hand work experience. This allowed him to relate the actual field works with his subject of study.
Currently Abbas’s role involves business development, sales pitch, imports, and carries out the role of key contributor in introducing new range of products and services with the motive of enhancing his family business. He diligently assists his father in their business which has 6 branches and a staff of 40+ employees.
His qualifications allow him to skillfully manage his staff, the technical queries and issues of the company. The staff of the company welcomed a technically educated person into their team and feels more comfortable to function around Abbas as he works hard to understand every minute detail that comes along working in the firm. The fluency in Arabic gained staying in Cairo for 5 years helps him dealing his Arab customers and staff in a more effective manner.
Abbas is overwhelmed and is grateful to join the business and to be able to assist his father for the last 5 years. He constantly works on learning more to gain expertise in all aspects of the business and to stabilize it even further. He aims at automating several aspects of his business with the use of IT and modern technology.
Given an opportunity in future he desires to open a new branch, with a new product line from ground up, but he is in no hurry and proceeds with utmost detailing. He would execute this idea equipped with proper planning and research.
Abbas believes that :
“Always have an open mind and don’t limit yourself with narrow thinking in planning your career. Look at different perspectives and explore. It’s never too late to learn anything.”
